Bonjour !
Welcome to the October newsletter and firstly, please accept my sincere apologies for the lack of newsletter in September! I WAS back from France but a bit jetlagged, and catching up on the work that accumulated while I was away, etc etc!

All of the photos you see here this month were taken on our 10th Anniversary tour (thanks to Darryl Scarff for the lovely images), from top:
Chateau de la Caze, in the Tarn Valley
Les Baux, Provence – the view up from our stunning hotel, L’Oustau de Baumaniere (a Relais & Chateaux property) up to the village
St Jean Cap Ferrat, on the Cote d’Azur – the view from Villa Ephrussi Rothschild
St Tropez, Cote d’Azur – waterfront
St Paul de Vence, Cote d'Azur
The tour was everything I had wished for and more – a groupof loyal repeat clients, who have all become close friends over the years; beautiful weather; magnificent hotels and locations; memorable evenings sipping French wine and partaking of fabulous cuisine! One of the highlights was our stay in the Chateau de la Caze – a medieval castle which has been renovated to four star standard – no medieval plumbing here!! The restaurant was absolutely divine – it never ceases to amaze me how the French can manage to maintain a successful restaurant serving exceptional cuisine provided by impeccable staff – in the middle of nowhere! All this two hours north of Montpellier in the middle of the least inhabited region in France. Remarkable.
This whole region is an extraordinary surprise – the Tarn Gorges are breathtaking and full of bird and wildlife; one can visit Roquefort and enjoy an exceptionally well presented tour and cheese tasting; the marvellous Millau Viaduct, the highest vehicular bridge in Europe, is a short drive away; and the region boasts a proliferation of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”. Superb.
From here we continued on to Provence and the Cote d’Azur, spending a few days amongst old friends in Provence and staying at the wonderful L’Oustau de Baumaniere (a truly memorable experience) and then the lovely La Perouse Hotel in Nice, where we enjoyed sea view rooms and wandered down to the old town most nights to sit in one of the outdoor restaurants in the old, historic part of town. Much rosé and seafood was enjoyed by all!
Well…. on to 2010! I am so thrilled, for my guests’ sake as well as mine, that the Australian dollar has bounced back and is so strong against both the euro and the UK pound!! This means that once again we can consider travel to France without condemning ourselves to a pauper’s retirement!!
This brings me to the first of my highlights this month…. European Waterways’ barge cruises!
